Singapore has begun providing Bluetooth-enabled communication devices to prevent the spread of the respiratory Coronavirus.
Devices called trace toggle tokens can be an alternative to the government's contact racing smartphone app. These devices are designed for people who do not have or use a smartphone.
People have doubts about privacy and the use of these devices. The ministers have made it clear that the devices will not track people's movements.
First of all officials are providing these devices to vulnerable elderly people who have little or no family support.
According to the details, these tokens work with unique QR codes. People do not need to charge them because their battery life is up to nine months.
These devices exchange Bluetooth signals with other nearby trace toggle tokens or smartphones accessing the Trace toggler app.
The contact detection officer will notify users if they are close to someone who is being infected with Covid-19.
If users have contracted the virus, the data will be downloaded from the device.
Because these devices do not run on Internet or cellular connections, authorities have assured them that they cannot access remote data.
The Government of Singapore has stated that the information collected by the devices will be stored for a maximum of 25 days.
Of the 43,459 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, 26 died and 37,508 recovered. The number of active cases is 5,925.
