The alleged role of sugar mill owners in Pakistan's sugar crisis could be re-investigated after the Islamabad High Court lifted the restraining order on Saturday. Chief Justice Athar Minallah announced a brief order on a petition challenging the findings of the commission. He said the court did not find the commission operating illegally.
The court said that the power of Shehzad Akbar to take action in the light of the report of the commission was contrary to the decision of the Supreme Court. The High Court said that this is a prerogative of the federal cabinet and it cannot transfer this power to anyone else.
